A look at how we have helped restaurateurs like you simplify restaurant operations with the GeniusPos iPad and Android point-of-sale system.

Four kinds of F&B business

The counter and dining area at Rutin, a full-service restaurant running on GeniusPos

Full-service restaurants

Establishments with a relatively broad menu, table, counter or booth service, and a wait staff. These offer meals and snacks for immediate consumption primarily on the premises, though many also offer takeout.

The counter at Angry Chicken, a quick-service restaurant running on GeniusPos

Fast food and quick-service

Fast food restaurants emphasise speed of service. Food is ordered from a front counter, or in some cases an electronic terminal, rather than at the table. Diners carry their own food from the counter and clear their own tray afterward. Drive-through and takeout may also be available — the industry calls these QSRs, quick-service restaurants.

Coffeehouses and cafés

Coffeehouses and cafés are not fully restaurants, because they derive most of their revenue from hot drinks rather than meals. Many open at breakfast and serve hot breakfasts all day. What distinguishes them is that patrons are welcome to sit and socialise for long periods without pressure to leave promptly after eating, which is why they are often chosen as meeting spots.

Food trucks

A food truck is a large vehicle equipped to cook and sell food. Some sell frozen or prepackaged food; others carry an on-board kitchen and prepare food from scratch. Sandwiches, burgers, fries and other regional fast food are common.

Some of the businesses running on it

These carried an outlet count on the source page we adapted this from — not all of them are F&B, so we have kept the label plain.
